Committee for the Renewal of the Hiring Committee. Committee. We are students working to decentralize the teacher hiring process. We meet Tuesdays at lunch in Craig’s room. Contact: hiring.committee@communityhigh.org

Community Beautification Existed for one year and the founder/leader is graduating, but could be an ongoing project if there is enough dedication.

Community Student Union This group’s existence is ad hoc. If there is a problem, a CSU is usually formed (exclusively by the students) to solve it.

Faraday Society This group coordinates visits to the school by professions in a field of science or engineering. The F-society also is in the process of setting up a program with a big whig at the LSI that would allow CHS student to get a research position at an LSI laboratory at the U of M. If you are at all interested in the science or engineering as a career path, this is the club for you. Meets Friday during lunch.

Free Verse This is a semi-annual publication is a literature/arts compilation made completely from the works of CHS students. Involvement would be at an editorial level, but anyone can submit.

Michigan Math Prize and Trig Star competition A challenging math test competition with cash prizes for the winners.

Mock Trial The CHS Mock Trial team has been a fixture at the school since 1993. Last year, in Orlando, FL, the team was 4th out of 50 teams. This year, we’ve returned with two competitive teams and an alternate teams.

National Honor Society This group elects members on their GPA; the current required GPA is 3.6. This group does all sorts of ultra-nifty service activities during the year.

Odyssey of the Mind The OD team is a group of no more than seven kids who are given guidelines for a short play, which they will present at a competition late in the year. On top of that, there is also a segment of competition that is solely reliant upon the student-team’s creativity. Their was a team last year, and it would be relatively easy to form another for this coming year.

QSA (Queer-Straight Alliance) is a group that meets every Monday in the art room to discuss issues relating to the LGBT community. They are open to the ideas and perspectives of people of all orientations. They annually participate in the national Day of Silence and are continually assisting and working alongside related groups and organizations.

SEED a.k.a. Students Educating Each other about Discrimination. This group meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to discuss and take part in activities about discrimination. They then go to middle schools and give presentations about understanding and preventing discrimination. Can be taken as a CR class.

Students for a Free and Democratic Iraq promotes the spread of democrasy in third world countries as well as political autonomy at CHS.

Youth Senate This is a one of the programs run beneath the umbrella organization, the Youth Empowerment Project. This group serves as a launching pad for involvement in all sorts of other Youth Empowerment projects and committees.
