Guidelines

Winter 2007 – Deadline to submit: 1/25/07.

In Breif:

• The class must be taught by an expert member of the community either on-site or in the school.
• The class must be monitored by certified teaching staff.
• You must sign the super-secret agreement forms, available only from the locked safe in the CR office. After filling them out in triplicate, you must eat the extra set of copies.

The Details

Community Resource Instructors must be experts in their field and approved by the Community Resource Monitor in charge of their field. CR Monitors are certified AAPS teachers.

CR Instructors not employed by an educational institution must submit to a criminal check.

Students and their CR Instructor must submit a completed Course Plan Cover Sheet with an attached syllabus (syllabus instructions).

CR Instructors and CR Monitors need to communicate during the semester, so accurate contact information is necessary.

CR Instructors will be contacted by the CR Monitor at least five times over the course of the semester:

1. For course approval,
2. Interim evaluation by 9/29,
3. Mid-term report and grade by 11/3,
4. Interim evaluation by 12/1,
5. A final evaluation done by post or email by 1/23/07.

Students and CR Instructors will provide documentation of completed work at the mid-term and final evaluation. CR monitors may also request documentation at other times.

Sadly, you can’t just play Monopoly all day and get credit for it. There are some strict guidelines:

Classes at other institutions:

• Students can pay tuition to another institution that issues its own credit. The public schools will honor the credit issued by that institution.
• Students may NOT pay tuition and fees for private instruction/experiences and receive public school credit (grumble grumble, this includes music lessons).

Work guidelines:

The CR department no longer has the staff to monitor student jobs.
