Community is not for everyone: you have to be motivated and responsible to thrive at CHS. There are several pointers that you’ll be a perfect fit:
- Can you work independently? If yes, you’ll love the freedom our schedule and open campus offers. This doesn’t mean that everyone sulks in a private corner – far from it. You interact with nearly the whole school on a daily basis.
- Are you respecful and responsible? Community is based on a mutual trust and respect between students, staff, and teachers. It’s your job to get to class on time and do the work. We don’t have detention. You don’t get called to the dean’s office after your 3rd tardy. That doesn’t mean you can slack off: fail two semesters and you’re out. If you don’t graduate after 4 years, you’re out. There are plenty of people who will work hard to be in. It’s the simple truth.
- Are you (or do you want to be) well rounded? Everybody does everything here (just check out the students section). Cliques do form here just like in any other school, but our small size means that we don’t have a huge group of jocks on one floor and artists stacked 4 deep on another. No, the artists are 4 deep everywhere here.
- Are you Tolerant? Not everyone at community high is going to agree with you on some things. You need to be able to still be a productive member of the Community, or at least try. If someone gives you trouble for your opinions, let a teacher or other staff member know.
